We are located in one of South Australia’s Greats Tourist towns “ROBE” with magnificent uninterrupted panoramic views overlooking Robe’s crayfishing fleet, boat harbour and picturesque Guichen Bay. Directly in front is Lipson Park which offers a large, shaded grassy area, electric barbeques and ample space for relaxing family activities. Take a stroll on the boardwalk around the marina to Karatta Beach and the breakwater. It’s a seven minute walk to the main street where Robes fine cafes and restaurants and the famous Caledonian Inn is located.
One of the most spectacular parts of Robe is up past our Motel, cliffs, the Lighthouse, the Obelisk, the Old Goal, Door Way Rock, the Blow hole and Glass beach. The waves come crashing in as it is the open sea. A lot of travellers miss West Beach because it is tucked in over a sand hill and cannot be seen from the road. Great place to walk but not to swim. Town beach and Long beach are the places to swim. The skate park, football oval, tennis courts and golf course are positioned directly behind the motel.

For the Guests that just can’t sit still take a ½ hour drive to Beachport, go via the Little Dip National Park to the picturesque bay of Nora Creina. There is a small whisper of a nudist camp, leave it up to you to find out. At Beachport take in the Historical jetty, Bompa’s Hotel for a coffee or to quench your thirst, a therapeutic swim in the Pool of Siloam. On your way home it is a MUST to call into the Woakwine cutting, history in its making.
>li> Kingston is ½ hour drive in the other direction. Grab a designated driver and visit the famous Mt Benson Wine Region many cellar doors. Cape Jaffa is the next port of call to view the crayfish fleet and the new marina. If you have your credit card you could even put a down payment on a Marina block of land. At Kingston check out the Kingston Museum and climb the Cape Jaffa Lighthouse. Larry the Lobster will be waiting for you at the other end of town for you to take his photo. The kids will love it.
Naracoorte is 1 ¼ hour drive the home of “The Sheep’s Back” Museum at the Information Centre. The Mini Jumbuck shop is a Must especially to check out all the second’s in quilts, underlays and wool pillows. But the big one is the world heritage listed Naracoorte Caves. There is an Emu farm at Avenue and the Limestone Coast Cheese Company at Lucindale.
Penola is 1 hour drive from Robe and home of the Mary McKillop. Check out the Visitor Information Centre and view the Mary McKillop Interpretive Centre. Penola is a historic Scottish town. The famous Coonawarra Wine Region is north of Penola.
Millicent & Mt Gambier are 1 ½ hour drive from Robe. The Living History Museum is located at the Visitor Information Centre and don’t forget the famous “The Domain” playground. Check out the windfarm. Tantanoola Cave is between Millicent and Mt Gambier. Mt Gambier is famous for its Blue Lake and volcanic systems.
For the Kids there are many playgrounds finished off with an ice cream at the Ice cream shop. Town beach is great to look for crabs in rockpools and have a quick dip. The skate park is handy behind the Motel and the harbour is right out the front for the kids to go fishing at the breakwater. If there are no fish there perhaps try the brim lakes which are a bit more protected. For those who can keep up the walking trails are great and you can finish up at the Outlet. Boogie boards can be hired at Steve’s Surf shop and tennis, squash and Golf hire is also available. Check a crayfish out at about 12 o’clock when the crayfish boats come in. Robe Deep Sea Fishing Charters go out when the weather is fine but when it’s not so good try a movie at the cinema. Kayaks are available, surf and sailing lessons at different times of the year.
For the Ladies the Shops are great, cloths, boutiques, homewares, gifts, gourmet goodies followed by a coffee at one of Robe’s famous cafes. If that is not enough, book into the local beauty salon just to make you feel good.
For the Couples the Arts are wonderful. The Robe Art Gallery can be found at the Robe Institute and Wilson’s at Robe Art Gallery is located at the main street opposite The Providore cafe’. Talking about cafe’s you will find it hard to choose from The Wild Mulberry Cafe, The Union Cafe’ and Providore and Belgiorno Caffe’. Each have stamped their own niche into delighting people’s tastebuds. Try the cinema then dine at either The Caledonian Hotel, Caly as us locals say, Sails Restaurant, Vic Street Pizzeria, Belgiorno Caffe’ or the Chinese.
